For whatever reason I never finished cutting this wood cut out , and it has stayed in this state for over 30 years. The Incredible drinking man was the nickname given to a Dudley friend of mine by a Greek bar man who had never seen any one drink as much in their whole life. On the night in question, we were in a bar in Crete and around the room was a chalk bord , five deep with different cocktails that covered three walls. My friend decided to try every single cocktail , that took him till 6 am next day. when the final cocktail arrived it was a tiny banana liquor , and my friend in strong Black country accent said ‘what the fucking hell is that ? , so he ordered a pint to go with it.
I was with the same friend one Saturday lunchtime in a pub in Dudley and he drank 26 pints of Banks’s mild and was till out again at 6 o clock opening time.
The incredible drinking man- I have no idea if he is alive or dead, but his memory lives on as the central figure in many of my works from this period.
