‘The fish Were Dead’ was inspired by a cycle trip along a Black country canal, where in the rainbow sheen of oily water , I saw a shoal of silvery fish. I stopped to look closely, and I realised that all the fish were dead. This print marks one of the starting points to a growing eco awareness, that was very much underpinned by spirituality and especially the biblical mandate of ‘speaking up for those that cannot speak for themselves ‘ .
