ENQUIRE
Large scale charcoal drawings made over a period of time has always been a central part of my art. These drawings enable me to work through complex and sometimes unclear things in my mind and the drawing is finished when all the visual elements make sense and the meanings become clear. This drawing is about the timelessness of love as symbolised by the connection of the swans. I wrestled with this drawing and it was only when I surrounded the beautiful white birds with the intense dark rhythmical circles that it started to make sense. These birds travel through an elemental timelessness that is at times not always easy. I don’t fully understand the meaning of this work but when first exhibited it touched the hearts of many people. I’m really glad that a large scale high quality representation of this drawing has found a permanent home in Papa Stour church so that whoever stumbles upon it might be able to think about the timeless and mysterious journey of the these two swans in the tranquillity of that beautiful island.
