PORTRAIT OF MY FRIEND
1987
Lino Cut
40x50cm
ENQUIRE
This is the first ever relief print I ever made when I was a foundation course student at Stourbridge art college . it is a portrait of my friend supping from a two-litre plastic bottle of cider amongst the Pensnett garages in swan street that at the time were broken down and full of racist graffiti .
My tutor at the time saw this print and encouraged me to keep making woodcuts , which is what I have done ever since. The words of a teacher can either make or break a student , and these words in many ways , went on to define the future direction of my life in terms of printmaking.
