The Migration of The Humpbacks

In Shetland hump backed whales occasionally pass by on their migration and I have been lucky enough to see them a few times. Scientists think the male humpback whales stay silent when they are subjected to the increasing noise of our oceans particularly in busy shipping lanes. The intense sonar used by the oil industry during seismic explorations to find new oil and gas reserves and the intense sonar used by submarines as they paly cat and mouse in our oceans make the oceans a deafening place to . Whales depend on sonar for communication and feeding and there are theories that the mass strandings of whales in some locations are caused by the deafening noise of increased solar activity, with the whales literally fleeing for their lives, and found on the shorelines with the equivalent of bleeding burst ear drums.
When we silence the whales, we simultaneously silence ourselves.
