The Despondent Poet began life as a homage to the creative factory worker who secretly writes poems next to the blast furnace .It was initially inspired by a friend’s father who secretly painted at night whilst in the day he broke his back in the foundry, but over time I realised this is more of a self-portrait clinging to the sketchbook which was my lifeline in the industrial waste land.
